Long ago, a shepherd boy lived in a rural village in China. He shepherded sheep in the mountains every day. Though he had dozens of sheep to accompany him, birds to sing for him, colorful flowers to look at, and fresh air to breathe, he felt that time seemed to go very slowly. He had so much energy, but this could have been better.
One day, the boy felt bored. He had so much pent-up energy that he felt he must release it. So he had an idea come to his head: What would happen to the village if I shouted, “Wolf is coming?”
He was excited by his idea and couldn’t wait to call. “A wolf is coming! Help!”
Then he shouted more loudly, “A wolf is coming! Help!”
In an instant, the villagers took hoes, shovels, and woodsticks to run to him.
“Where are the wolves?” they all worried. They looked around for them but found nothing. “Where are the wolves?” they asked the boy again.
The boy laughed and couldn’t stop doubling over with laughter. He felt the game was so funny.
Afterward, people knew there wasn’t any wolf; the shepherd boy was lying and teased them for playing.
“We were worried about you and put our work away to save you. How can you tease us? “The villagers were sad.
After a while, the shepherd boy was bored again. He wondered, “What would happen if I shouted Wolf coming again?”
So he shouted again: Wolf is coming! Wolf is coming! The villagers ran to him again and didn’t see any wolf yet.
“We won’t worry about you anymore in the future.” The villagers were angry.
One day, a wolf sneaked close to the shepherd boy’s sheep. The wolf’s cold green eyes stared at him, showed its sharp teeth, and had a threatening cry from its throat when the boy discovered it.
The boy was frightened. He was panicky, couldn’t move, and cried. When he felt warm water running down his thighs, he screamed, “A wolf coming! Help!” but his voice sounded like a whisper.
He tried to yell louder, “A wolf is coming! Help!” But there was only the echo from the mountains.
He cried louder and louder, “A wolf is coming! Help! A wolf is coming! Help!” only the wind’s sound answered him.
As if on purpose, the wolf walked past him with proud steps, picked his sheep up, and went away slowly.
“A wolf is coming! Help!” the boy murmured. He sat there and looked helplessly at the sky as if to ask God why. Why didn’t anyone come to help him?
When we complain that no one helps, should we consider what we once did to others?
I hate lying very much!! I could take all the worst things, but I cannot take cheating or lying.
We know if someone’s credit could be better, the reason isn’t a person who forgets to pay bills once or twice; he must have had many lousy billing records.
The opposite is the same. Honesty and trustworthiness can’t be shot.
Honesty and trustworthiness are the basis that makes modern society run better, so it is essential.
We can’t always speak the truth; maybe our situation prevents us from doing so, but we could keep silent or ensure we are not liars.
After I translated the archaic Chinese story, I read it to Sandy. He told me America had the same story; his name is The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
See! Whether it is the Eastern or Western world, no matter what faith, all hate liars and cheaters. We all teach our children to be honest people.
The quadrennial presidential election will begin again. I pray with all my heart that the shepherd boy doesn’t lie to people again and shout, “Wolf, come.”
